What is 'The Dutch Book Club'?
Background If you are considering this course, then the Dutch grammar holds very few remaining secrets for you. Expressing yourself in Dutch and articulating your thoughts has become quite easy. Yet, you wish to further develop and refine your knowledge of Dutch and indirectly also of Dutch culture. What to do? As applies to any other language: one of the best ways to improve your understanding (including vocabulary) is by reading and listening to well-formed texts in Dutch. In this way, you can further familiarize yourself with the sound and structure of the language. This course is not just a way to improve your linguistic skills, but it also gives you insight in the "behind the scenes" kind of Dutch by interacting with the language in exactly the same way native speakers do. There is much to discover and in this club, we can do it together. Materials include short stories, columns, (parts of) novels, poems, songs and so on. While the emphasis is on written texts, it is also possible to consider any other media. There is ample room for discussions, debates and any input of your own. What would you like to talk about? |
